Visual representation of the construct of organization for working mothers ages 35 - 54

Through our research, we were able to create the model that can be seen to the right. The model represents the organizational construct for working mothers ages 35-54, visually representing the most highly valued aspects of organization to this group of people. We concluded that the most prominent aspect of organizational systems is their efficiency, since most working mothers are concerned about saving time in any way possible. Scheduling is also an integral part of the construct, since a time management system allows for one to more easily recognize time savings. We also noticed that although a lot of the time working mothers were not necessarily concerned with aesthetics when creating their organizational system, things were generally put back into their place and kept in an orderly fashion to make sure that the organizational system looked visually appealing. This added benefit of aesthetics makes the time savings and time management even more appealing to working mothers. The dashed red line around our model represents habits. Habits are defined as behaviors that occur automatically, regularly over time. Since a lot of working mothers are satisfied with their current organizational system. Even if there is a potential improvement available to them, this "habits barrier" often discourages working mothers from adopting any changes to their organizational systems. We identified this "habits barrier" as the most prevalent problem for Karyn's new product; even though it may be more efficient and aesthetically-pleasing than current linen storage systems, it would require a change in working mothers' habits, something quite difficult to actually do.
